Searching QP LegalEze and BC Laws:
A Workshop for BC Public Libraries

Welcome to the Searching QP LegalEze and BC Laws webinar page.

This online workshop is presented by the BC Courthouse Library Society's LawMatters Project in partnership with the Public Library Services Branch.

The session is delivered via a small group teleconference and online demonstration.


By participating, you will be able to:

  • Describe the process by which laws are made in B.C.
  • List the contents of the QP LegalEze database and BC Laws web site
  • Conduct searches in QP LegalEze and BC Laws web site
  • Print or save search results
  • Identify additional sources of legal information
  • Describe the process by which laws are made in B.C.

Live Meeting instructions

Important Note: You will need access to the Live Meeting email invitation the Public Library Services Branch sends you to get started on the day of your training session.

What to do 2-3 days before your training session:

  • Watch for an email invitation from your PLSB contact to join a LiveMeeting training session.
  • Read the instructions. We recommend you download and test the Windows-bassed LiveMeeting software a few days before your session. The other option is to use the "Web-based console" (no downloading or installation required). Both versions are fine for this session.
  • Call your PLSB contact(s) if you have any concerns about the LiveMeeting software or the webinar.

What to do on the day of your training session:

  1. b>15-30 minutes before your session:
    Use the 'Click here to Join Live Meeting' link in the email invitation.
    • It will take a minute or two for you to be connected. If you choose to use the Web-based console, cancel the option to download the Windows console and wait for the option to use the Web console.
  2. 5-10 minutes before your session:
    dial the number specified in your invitation to join the teleconference. Use the access code supplied.

Other Requirements

  • Each particpant in the workshop must have access to a computer and phone during the workshop (2 people sharing is fine with a speakerphone).

  • At least three days before the workshop, ensure your library's subscription to QP LegalEze is working (note that QP LegalEze is only licensed for IN LIBRARY use). Call Anne Morgan at PLSB Victoria (1-800-663-7051) if you are having difficulty accessing the site or need a password (for libraries without static IP addresses).

  • Have a session of QP LegalEze running during the presentation if doing the webinar at the library. There will be a break to do some of the practice questions.

Please read the following resource before the workshop:
 Print off the practice questions to have on hand during the webinar, and to try before (or after) the webinar. Keep in mind that QP LegalEze is NOT licensed for remote access from home, etc. so you will need to do the practice questions at the library. You may also wish to print the PowerPoint slides to refer to during the webinar:
