The Libraries in Dialogue with Government Symposium will be held the evening of October 16 and all day on October 17, 2006. It will be held in Victoria, at the Victoria Conference Center which is attached to the Fairmont Empress Hotel and will be hosted by the Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Education.
The new strategic plan for public libraries, “Libraries without Walls: the World within Your Reach”, has committed the Province to enhance the investment in public libraries and has committed the public libraries to create new and more integrated approaches to serving the local citizenry. The strategy has also raised the profile of public libraries as an important ally for government in providing access to information.
The purpose of the symposium is to bring together trustees and librarians from public libraries, and government representatives to begin bridging this gap in mutual understanding and to establish working relationships between libraries and government agencies across both program areas and geographic location.
